極限氧指數(shù)是指聚合物在氧和氮混合氣體中當(dāng)剛能支撐其燃燒時(shí)氧的體積分?jǐn)?shù)濃度。是表征材料燃燒行為的指數(shù)。極限氧指數(shù)可以用燃燭試驗(yàn)測定，將一個(gè)聚合物棒在特定條件下向下燃燒進(jìn)行測定。通常認(rèn)為極限氧指數(shù)為22時(shí)，該物質(zhì)可以在空氣中燃燒。氧指數(shù)高表示材料不易燃燒，氧指數(shù)低表示材料容易燃燒，一般認(rèn)為氧指數(shù)27屬難燃材料。
測試原理：
將試樣豎直地固定在玻璃燃燒筒中,其底座與可產(chǎn)生氮氧混合氣流的裝置相連，點(diǎn)燃試樣的頂端,混合氣流中的氧濃度將會持續(xù)下降，直至火焰熄滅.
